Winemaker Marelise Niemann expertly crafts the Momento Tinta Barocca 2022 using a minimal intervention approach. She sources the grapes from a blend of three old-vine vineyards—all over 40 years old—spanning the Western Cape, including premium sites in Darling, Stellenbosch, and the Swartland.

During vinification, Niemann ferments the 100% Tinta Barocca with indigenous yeasts, incorporating 15% whole bunches to build complexity. Furthermore, she uses gentle, manual punch-downs before maturing the wine for 16 months in older French oak. Consequently, the wine is bottled unfined, preserving its purity.

On the nose, the 2022 vintage reveals compelling aromas of muddled raspberries, spice, and cacao. Then, the palate delivers a beautiful expression of the Tinta Barocca grape, showing wild strawberry, dark chocolate, and cinnamon framed by bright acidity and grippy, earthy tannins.
