Herbarium is a unique Cape White blend crafted within Maanschijn’s historic building. A space that once served as a stable and later, home to Oom Sampie, a local who dried indigenous fynbos flowers within its walls for the market. This Maanschijn Herbarium Cape White is a liquid homage to that rich heritage and the vibrant flora of the Walker Bay.
This distinctive blend features four varieties: Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Sémillon, and Chardonnay. We source all our grapes from vineyards nestled in the cooler, southern Walker Bay wine district. The vineyards are surrounded by the abundant fynbos kingdom of the Cape.
Winemakers gently press and settle the fruit, then rack it into aged French oak casks. Fermentation occurred spontaneously, with the wine maturing for ten months on its fine lees. Finally, the Maanschijn Herbarium Cape White was blended and bottled without fining, preserving its natural character and expression.
