Secure the critically-acclaimed Thamnus Chardonnay 2022, South Africa’s highest-scoring Chardonnay at the 2025 Decanter World Wine Awards. Winemaker P.J. Geyer sourced the grapes from a single vineyard on Shaw’s Mountain. The cool-climate Overberg terroir is just 20 km from Walker Bay. The 2022 growing season was cool and moderate. The fruit was picked just before late-February rains, preserving crisp acidity.
This wine seamlessly blends old-world elegance with new-world precision. The nose opens with vibrant citrus aromas. Dried orange peel, orange blossom, and subtle hints of fresh ginger follow. A flinty minerality and touch of crushed stone reflect the maritime influence. The palate is reserved, mineral, and incredibly sleek. Notes of spicy lemon, white pepper, and yellow grapefruit are prominent. Thoughtful use of French oak enhances the texture.
The Thamnus Chardonnay 2022 has received phenomenal recognition. It earned 96 Points at the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA). Tim Atkin MW and Greg Sherwood MW both rated it 95 Points. This finely structured wine offers great cellaring potential.
