Taaibosch Crescendo 2021 is a remarkable Cape Bordeaux blend that received a stellar 97-point rating from Tim Atkin MW.
The Taaibosch estate sits on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain, overlooking False Bay. At 380 meters above sea level, the vineyards benefit from a unique maritime influence. Gentle sea breezes cool the vines, ensuring the grapes ripen slowly and perfectly during the summer months.
This elegant wine is a youthful ruby color with clean, fresh fruit flavors of red currant and blueberries. The palate offers a creamy, silky texture with a persistent character that finishes with finely-grained tannins. While the fruit is slow to evolve, it has a dry, lingering finish. This wine will benefit from further aging, developing even more complexity over time.
Winemaking on the estate is precise. All grapes are hand-picked and moved by gravity into stainless steel and cement vessels. A period of cold soaking enhances color and aroma extraction, while extended maceration adds a soft texture and complexity. The wine then matures for 13 months in 225-liter French oak barrels (30% new) before being blended and returned to foudre and cement vessels for another 12 months. This process ensures harmony, purity of fruit, and a true expression of the estate’s unique terroir.
