Discover the ethereal beauty of The Sadie Family Soldaat 2025, a monumental, single-vineyard Grenache from the high-altitude Piekenierskloof region. Visionary winemaker Eben Sadie coaxes magnificent class from this unforgiving mountain site. Critics consistently lavish the Soldaat label with extraordinary praise. Previous vintages captured a phenomenal 97-point rating from Tim Atkin MW and outstanding 95-point scores from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. This 2025 vintage stands out as a highly complex, beautifully transparent expression of old-vine heritage.

The 2025 Vintage Profile

Grenache can compete with the most elegant and refined reds of the Mediterranean when it grows in poor, low-yielding sites. The 2025 Soldaat translates its rugged mountain terroir into pure liquid perfection. This specific vintage departs with a slight, deliberate early reduction that protects the wine. It blows off quickly with a couple of gentle swirls in the glass. You will experience the ever-present, traditional aromas of red cherry and pomegranate fruit.

Tasting Notes

  • Aroma: A perfumed bouquet of fresh red cherry, bright pomegranate, and wild strawberry fills the air with deep, earthy complexity.

  • Palate: The fresh cherry notes carry over smoothly to the palate. A vibrant, fresh acidity meets beautifully detailed, evolving tannin textures.

Artisanal Vinification & Ageing

The winery fills concrete tanks with roughly 30% whole clusters to provide structural framework. The team destems the remaining 70% to yield enough free-run juice to initiate a completely natural fermentation. The juice spends about 30 days on the skins before moving to a traditional, old basket press. Interestingly, the entire winemaking process occurs inside 33Hl concrete tanks. The wine matures on its fermentation lees for eight months inside these vessels. The cellar crew then racks the liquid into a separate concrete tank for an additional four months to settle clean naturally. Finally, they bottle this transparent masterpiece directly from the fine lees.

Cellaring Suggestion: This incredible bottling honestly needs time in the cellar to display its full complexity. The firm tannin textures will richly reward collectors who wait a minimum of 5 to 8 years. We highly recommend decanting if you choose to enjoy it young.
