Discover the captivating energy of The Sadie Skurfberg 2025, a legendary single-vineyard Chenin Blanc from the Citrusdal Mountain region. Pioneer winemaker Eben Sadie coaxes unbelievable depth from these ancient, rugged mountain bush vines. Critics consistently shower the Skurfberg label with monumental praise. The wine previously earned a perfect 100-point score and a 99-point rating from Tim Atkin MW, alongside consistent 96-point accolades from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. This 2025 vintage stands out as a highly expressive, deeply textured addition to the iconic Old Vine Series.

The 2025 Vintage Profile

The Skurfberg Mountain features edgy, rough formations of weathered Table Mountain sandstone and very sandy topsoils. This warm, dry site serves as a truly magnificent home for old-vine Chenin Blanc. It continuously produces wines with staggering natural freshness and massive volume. The 2025 growing season delivered a highly grounded mineral expression with very fine aromatics. Expect lovely notes of stone fruit, riper pears, and unripe passion fruit that merge seamlessly into a protective waxy coating.

Tasting Notes

  • Aroma: Fine, complex scents of ripe pear, stone fruit, and green passion fruit unfurl over a layer of classic Chenin beeswax.

  • Palate: The palate offers deeply savory tannins, firm acidity, and a stunningly long, lingering aftertaste.

Artisanal Vinification & Ageing

The vineyard team hand-picks the grapes into small 20kg crates to avoid bruising. They immediately place the fruit into a cooling room to counter the intense harvest temperatures that frequently exceed 35 degrees. Next, a three-hour whole-bunch pressing allows the juice to settle naturally in the collecting tank. The liquid moves into two older wooden foudres to await a completely spontaneous fermentation. This wild process can take up to 10 days to start and lasts anywhere from one to six months. The wine naturally completes its malolactic cycle by the following spring. The juice matures undisturbed on its fermentation lees for 12 months. Finally, the team bottles directly from the cask with minimal sulfur additions.

Cellaring Suggestion: Skurfberg is famous for its jaw-dropping texture and exceptional longevity. Store this bottle for 3 to 5 years to let its tight mineral energy unfold completely.
