Experience the sheer brilliance of the Sadie Family Palladius 2024, a highly celebrated icon of South African white winemaking. Winemaker Eben Sadie crafts this legendary white blend from the rugged soils of the Swartland. Historically, the estate has captured phenomenal international praise. Previous vintages of Palladius have secured near-perfect 99-point scores from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate and 99-point ratings from critic Tim Atkin MW. The 2024 vintage proudly continues this incredible legacy of world-class sophistication.

The 2024 Vintage Profile

Over the past seven years, this wine has grown immensely in quality and overall refinement. The 2024 Palladius utilizes an impressive canvas of 17 distinct Swartland vineyards. Improved viticulture across these sites delivers an incredibly complex and expressive profile. This specific vintage displays very fresh characteristics of lemon-zest and nectarine. You will also notice beautiful, suppressed grapefruit aromas coated tightly in a distinct coastal salinity.

Tasting Notes

  • Aroma: An elegant bouquet of fresh lemon zest, nectarine, and delicate grapefruit unfolds with a beautiful layer of saline minerality.

  • Palate: The wine feels remarkably restrained and elegant throughout. However, it still holds massive structural weight and incredible length.

Artisanal Vinification & Ageing

The winemaking team carefully picks the grapes across many low-yielding parcels. The whole bunches go straight into the press after cooling overnight in the cellar. A natural settling of the juice occurs in the collecting tank during a slow, 2-to-3-hour pressing. The turbid juice then moves to 725-liter concrete eggs and clay amphoras for a completely natural fermentation. Temperatures remain constant at 18 °C. Each vineyard portion ferments in its own time, which can take up to 18 months. Finally, the wine matures in these concrete and clay vessels for 12 months before racking into large old foudres for an additional year of ageing. The estate bottles the final masterwork completely unfined and unfiltered.

Cellaring Suggestion: While tempting to open immediately, professionals suggest aging this iconic white blend for a minimum of 4 to 6 years to unleash its full potential.
