Discover the energetic and fresh Off The Record Syrah 2023. This is the fourth release of this remarkable high-altitude Syrah. Grapes are sourced from two unique vineyard parcels. The first sits on the Ceres Plateau at 1000 meters above sea level. This rare, high-altitude site is planted in fertile Bokkeveld shale. A second vineyard lies 180 km south in the cool Elgin Valley. The 2023 vintage combines the intense character of these two cool sites.
The wine has an attractive deep red hue. Spicy aromas of white pepper lead the nose. Notes of red and black berries, violets, and fynbos offer support. Dark fruits provide an appealing, juicy entrance onto the palate. Savoury white pepper notes and a touch of salinity complement the mid-palate. Fine, subtle tannins round off the finish. Winemaker Bobby Wallace used 90% whole-bunch fermentation. This technique preserves the fruit’s purity and freshness.
The Off The Record Syrah 2023 has earned high praise. Wine-Searcher rates the 2023 vintage highly, with a 93/100 average critic score. James Suckling’s Associate Editor Claire Nesbitt praised its freshness and fine tannins. This cool-climate Syrah offers finesse now. It also displays enormous maturation potential in the cellar.
