Mullineux Schist Syrah 2024 – Swartland Fine Wine

The 2024 Mullineux Schist Syrah captures the distinct mineral terroir of the Swartland. Organically farmed, dry-land vines grow on the 400-meter stony slopes of Kasteelberg at Roundstone estate. This rocky schist terrain restricts vine vigor and produces tiny grape clusters. Consequently, the wine offers deep concentration, dark fruit expressions, and firm, silky tannins.

Critical Acclaim & Top Ratings

  • 97 Points – Tim Atkin MW (2026 Special Report): Tim Atkin named this bottle a Red Wine of the Year.

2024 Vintage & Winemaking Highlights

  • The team hand-harvested grapes in cool morning air on February 13 and 14, 2024.

  • Vineyard yields reached just 4.3 tons per hectare (26 HL/ha).

  • Winemakers foot-crushed 100% whole bunches into 500L open-top French oak barrels.

  • Indigenous microbes drove the entire natural fermentation.

  • Four weeks of maceration maximized dark perfume and refined tannin structure.

  • The wine matured 12 months in 500L barrels and nine months in 2000L foudres.

  • The cellar bottled the unfiltered wine on November 13, 2025, producing only 486 cases.
