The Moya Meaker Chardonnay 2024 is an extraordinarily mineral Elgin expression. The nose opens with cool, stony restraint. Expect notes of salty flint, gravel, and oatmeal. Subtle kiwi fruit emerges as the wine warms. A vivid seam of lime juice runs through the palate’s center. White citrus pith and a chalk-dry grip hem in this intense flavor. The texture is initially reserved but slowly unfurls. Granny Smith apple notes and a whisper of walnut surface on the tail.
Winemaker Jean Smit crafts this precise Chardonnay using slow, spontaneous fermentation. The Moya Meaker Chardonnay 2024 remained on its lees for ten months in 1000L Austrian oak foudres.
This bottling shows great promise and mineral tension.
