The Lourens Family Skuinskap Chenin Blanc 2024 comes from a single, high-altitude vineyard site. This 100% Chenin Blanc (or Steen) vineyard was planted in 1977. The vines sit on decomposed sandstone soils at 750m above sea level in Piekenierskloof. Franco Lourens’ goal is to showcase the story of this specific, unique site.
The Lourens Family Skuinskap Chenin Blanc 2024 shows subtle smoky reduction preceding notes of pear and peach. You will find a hint of citrus and straw on the nose. The palate is light yet intensely flavoured. Crisp acidity drives the wine to an ultra-dry finish. It has an elegant, linear, and taut character. This wine exhibits incredible fruit density and a persistent, deeply savory finish.
The “Skuinskap” name refers to the unusual, slanted trellis system. The Sandell family passionately farms these old vines. The finished wine is focused and full of character.
