🍇 Fogwell Syrah 2024: South Africa’s Premier Red Wine (95 Points)
Chris Alheit and William Fogwell craft this spectacular 2024 Syrah. It is a collaboration from two of the Cape’s most exciting sites. This yields incredible clarity and depth. This new vintage is elegant rather than forceful.
One-third of the grapes grow on schist just north of Porseleinberg in the Swartland. The rest comes from granite soils at Karibib in Polkadraai Hills. The nose is immediately alluring. It shows red and black berries and a touch of pomegranate. Expect a beautiful floral perfume and white pepper.
The palate is light-bodied, vivid, and vital. This red wine shows great clarity of fruit. Bright acidity lifts the experience. Ultra-fine tannins give a dry, graceful finish. This is truly a wine of poise and quiet confidence.

The Swartland portion sees one-third whole-cluster fermentation. This component is matured in older oak barrels. The Karibib grapes are entirely whole-cluster fermented. They then mature in a combination of cement diamond and oak. This unique process builds its firm structure.
