The 2025 Vintage Profile
Hemelrand sits on a cold, blustery mountain ridge at 360 meters above sea level. The vines dig deep into gravelly clay and Sandstone soils. This marginal, cold climate ensures slow grape ripening with immense natural acidity. The 2025 growing season marks a bitter-sweet milestone as the final vintage farmed by grower Hans Evenhuis. It delivers a powerfully aromatic and head-turning performance. The nose opens with exotic top notes of stone fruit, fresh rind, warm quince, and sweet oatmeal.
Tasting Notes
-
Aroma: A beautifully complex nose reveals striking layers of stone fruit, citrus rind, quince, and a comforting touch of sweet oatmeal.
-
Palate: The full-bodied palate displays magnificent structural volume. Surging, electric acidity balances the weight, leading into a long, pointed finish with a sweet-and-sour snap.
Artisanal Vinification & Ageing
The vineyard team hand-picks the fruit early in the morning before performing meticulous cluster sorting. Next, a gentle whole-bunch pressing occurs. The winemakers keep the raw juice very cloudy and allow it to settle lightly without any chemical additives. A completely spontaneous wild fermentation takes place inside older oak barrels of varying sizes. This natural fermentation process lasts for approximately two months. The wine matures undisturbed on its primary lees for 12 months. It then rests in a stainless steel tank on fine lees for an additional six months before bottling without any fining.
