Own a bottle of the sublime AA Badenhorst Raaigras Grenache 2023. This single-vineyard red comes from South Africa’s oldest Grenache vines. The bush vines were planted in 1952 on decomposed granite soils. Limited to about 2500 bottles, this is a rare collector’s item. The 2023 vintage shows concentrated fruit and elegance.
The nose is aromatically complex and delightful. Fragrant sweet spices, strawberries, and rose hips abound. Subtle notes of pink peppercorns add intrigue. The palate is soft, silky, and medium-bodied. Flavors like ras-al-hanout, goji berries, and salty liquorice provide unique dimensions. The finish is juicy, delicious, and incredibly long. Winemaker Adi Badenhorst used a simple winemaking approach. The grapes were foot-stomped and spent 22 days on skins.
The AA Badenhorst Raaigras Grenache 2023 has received exceptional scores. Tim Atkin MW rated it 96/100 points. James Suckling awarded it 94/100 points. This wine will mature beautifully until at least 2038.
