WOLF & WOMAN Grenache Blanc is a unique blend, born from grapes in two distinct vineyards and regions.
One vineyard flourishes in the Voor-Paardeberg, rooted in decomposed granite soils. This area’s singular terroir is greatly influenced by the afternoon south-westerly wind, known to viticulturists as the “Table Bay air-conditioner.” This cooling breeze allows the vineyards to chill down at night, leading to slower grape ripening and better acidity retention.
The second vineyard is perched high in the Piekenierskloof Mountains at 650m above sea level, thriving in sandstone soils. Grapes grown at this altitude experience significant temperature swings between day and night. These cold nights preserve the grapes’ acidity, resulting in fresher wines. The intense sunlight at higher altitudes also leads to thicker grape skins, contributing to more intense flavors.
Winemaking Journey
All grapes are picked early in the morning, carefully packed into crates, and spend 24 hours in a cold room. The next day, the grapes are whole bunch pressed and then go directly into 500L old oak barrels. Natural fermentation is allowed to occur here, after which the wine matures for 8 months on its lees before blending and bottling.
