The Twiswind vineyard, a co-planted site on the Paardeberg, features coarse, well-drained granite over rocky subsoil. This unique terroir promotes early ripening, yielding grapes with natural acidity and lower alcohol.
Currently, the vineyard is picked in two stages, with components co-fermented and blended early. The wine ages for 11 months on lees in concrete tanks and old wooden vats (to avoid wood flavour), then settled before bottling. The long-term goal is a single-tank co-fermentation of the entire vineyard.
Twiswind embodies the concept of a “future-proof” single vineyard, designed with diverse varieties to create complexity – where “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.”
This maiden 2024 vintage shows limey, zesty dynamics with Granny Smith apple and peach skin aromas. Its intense palate and textural aspects, driven by structural mouthfeel and tannin tension, dominate the aromatics. With firm acidity, this wine needs time to fully develop.
Grapes: Vermentino, Picpoul, Marsanne, Grenache Blanc, Cinsaut Blanc, Palominio, Chenin Blanc, Grillo, Assyrtiko, Verdelho, Clairette Blanche & Semillon
