Sourced from 44-year-old, sustainably farmed Chenin Blanc bush vines in Swartland’s Paardeberg (Kweperfontein, Watervale, and Jakkalsfontein vineyards), this wine comes from deep decomposed granite soils and received no irrigation, benefiting from 500mm of annual rainfall. The valley-bottom vineyard’s limited sunlight exposure results in a less typically ripe Swartland Chenin profile, with greener mid-valley sections contributing a balanced mix of flavors and textures. Hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed, the juice naturally fermented and settled in old oak barrels (and an egg). After about twelve months on the lees, the wine was racked and bottled with only a touch of sulfur, without fining or filtration. This limited production of 7480 bottles offers aromas of pear, apricot, white flower, baked quince, and honeycomb. The palate presents a rich power with a subtle reduction and salinity that enhances its freshness.
