Kilchoman Distillery continues its exploration of Port cask maturation with the third release of its highly anticipated Port Cask Matured expression. This 2024 edition marks a significant evolution, as the whisky has been aged entirely in ruby port hogsheads for the full duration of its maturation. The casks, carefully selected to showcase a range of ages, with the youngest being 6 years old, contribute to the whisky’s complexity and depth.

“Maturing our spirit in port casks adds wonderful layers of flavor,” explains Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder. “Expect vibrant notes of red berries and smoked meats, complementing the signature Kilchoman character of maritime peat smoke and citrus sweetness.”

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: A captivating blend of red berries and figs, intertwined with zesty citrus, warm cinnamon, and a hint of smoked paprika.
  • Palate: The palate is treated to a delightful combination of cooked strawberries, savory smoked meats, sweet tobacco, and a lingering charcoal smoke.
  • Finish: A warming sensation unfolds, with waves of fruity sweetness and ashy smoke leaving a lasting impression.

This 2024 Port Cask Matured release exemplifies Kilchoman’s dedication to innovation and craftsmanship. It’s a testament to the distillery’s ability to create exceptional whiskies that showcase the unique interplay between Islay peat and the influence of fortified wine casks.
