Crafted by Winemaker Abrie Beeslaar, this 100% Pinotage hails from Simonsberg, Stellenbosch. It’s sourced from 32 to 67-year-old dryland bush vines on decomposed granite and Hutton soils, yielding a concentrated 5 tons per hectare. With an ageing potential of 10-15 years, this is a true collector’s item (13,000 cases produced).
The cooler 2021 vintage resulted in elegant wines with softer tannins, making them accessible earlier. Grapes were fermented in open-top concrete fermenters at 28°C with hourly hand punch-downs for 3 days. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matured for 18 months in 225L French Nevers oak barrels (80% new, 20% second fill).
This Pinotage boasts a bright red colour with a purple hue. The nose offers bold plums, blackberries, liquorice, smoke, roasted nuts, and rich vanilla. The palate is packed with plums, black and red cherries, dark chocolate, and spicy oak. Integrated, plush tannins and satisfying acidity create a balanced wine with a long finish.
Pair this versatile Pinotage with spicy Asian dishes, aromatic curries, venison, seared game fish, or duck.
