The Agnes Chardonnay, a tribute to his great-grandmother Agnes Floyd, embodies her remarkable resilience and strength. Agnes, who arrived in South Africa at just 14 and was reputedly Cape Town’s first woman with a driver’s license, inspires this multi-vineyard blend. Each vineyard contributes unique complexity, reflecting her sturdy character.
Sourced from select vineyards in the Hemel-en-Aarde and Overberg regions, this Chardonnay is made using the traditional method of pressing whole grape clusters directly after harvest. The juice then settles before natural fermentation in a mix of 228 and 500-liter French oak barrels, as well as foudres, where it ages for nine months before bottling. No SO2 or enzymes are added before fermentation.
