From the heart of the Swartland, the City on a Hill Swartland Cinsault 2024 is the flagship red wine from acclaimed winemaker André Bruyns. This is a wine that showcases the true potential of old-vine Cinsault, crafted with minimal intervention to express the unique character of its dryland vineyard.

Winemaking & Terroir

Grapes for this wine come from a dry-farmed vineyard planted in 1998 on an east-facing slope west of Malmesbury. The winemaking process is a true expression of the Swartland’s natural character. It features spontaneous fermentation with one-third whole bunches, then ages gracefully in old 500-litre barrels. This meticulous approach results in a wine with incredible purity, freshness, and a soft, supple structure.

On the nose, the 2024 vintage offers a vibrant bouquet of wild strawberry, red cherry, and pomegranate seeds, with hints of tarragon and oregano. The palate is fresh, juicy, and beautifully balanced, with a remarkable purity of fruit and a supple, seamless texture. This wine has a long, expressive finish, showing why Swartland Cinsault is gaining such a reputation for elegance and depth.

Food Pairing

Its vibrant fruit and delicate structure make it a versatile food partner. Pair it with lighter dishes such as roast lamb, grilled pork, poultry, or vegetarian dishes. Serve slightly chilled to enhance its freshness.
