Crafted by Abrie Beeslaar from 100% Chardonnay grapes grown in the Western Cape on 12-17 year old vines. These vines, planted in shale and decomposed granite soils and supplementary drip irrigated, yielded 6-8 tons per hectare. The 2023 vintage, marked by mild, dry conditions followed by a wet finish, resulted in smaller berries of exceptional quality. Handpicked and whole bunch pressed, the juice was fermented in a combination of new and older French oak barrels, as well as ceramic pots. The wine matured on the lees for 12 months in French oak (20% new) before bottling. The 2023 Beeslaar Chardonnay offers fragrant aromas of citrus and green apple, with ripe pineapple flavors balanced by a mineral core and delicate acidity. Moderate alcohol (12.88%) and a refreshing finish. Aging potential: 5-6 years.
