Discover Hereafter Here 2024, a captivating wine that embodies the exciting potential of young vineyards in the Cape. The vision behind this unique offering allows the producer to select sites and materials purely for the sake of crafting exceptional quality. They’re embracing the idea of planting for the future, ensuring magnificent, mature vines for generations to come. This wine also serves as a nurturing space for excellent younger parcels that are still finding their voice, but aren’t quite ready for their Cartology range.

The 2024 vintage of Hereafter Here draws from a diverse collection of prime vineyard parcels. You’ll find grapes from the Swartland, near Malmesbury, as well as from Piekenierskloof, Bottelary, and Polkadraai. The blend also includes some exceptional older vine parcels from the Paardeberg and Tygerberg, adding layers of complexity to this vibrant wine.

The winemaking approach for Hereafter Here is rooted in simplicity and precision. Grapes are hand-picked early in the morning, sorted directly in the vineyard, and then whole-bunch pressed. The juice is lightly settled – the producer prefers it cloudy and natural – with no additions. Wild fermentation unfolds in old barrels of various sizes, typically lasting around two months. The wine then matures on its lees for approximately 12 months, followed by a six-month rest in tank on fine lees, with no fining, before bottling. It’s a testament to careful, minimalist winemaking.

The 2024 Hereafter Here offers an intriguing nose, with subtle earthy and herbal notes, perhaps a hint of spearmint, brightened by lively citrus accents. On the palate, it’s wonderfully charming, smooth, and well-mannered. This wine will be an excellent companion at your table, ready to be enjoyed now.
